DemDaily: The Endorsement Race: Elected, Labor, Orgs & Celebs!

April 5, 2016
In the presidential race for endorsements, the early support of party leaders and elected officials have historically been a major predictor of a party's nominee.
The influence of Governors, US Senators and Members of Congress with their colleagues and their voting constituents carries great weight in assessing the political landscape.
Likewise, the organizational strength, funding and voting power that labor unions and nationals organizations bring to the table, have a measurable impact on a candidate's success in any given state.
While celebrities have no quantitative affect on the outcome of a race, they make the game a little more fun to watch. In the celebrity column, 2016's final five seem to have garnered an eclectic set of endorsements that reflect their campaign personalities and political connections.
The 2016 Endorsement Count
According to *FiveThirtyEight, 386 of approximately 585 key elected office holders have endorsed.  Their scale for weighting the influence: 10 points for Govs, 5 points for Senators and 1 point for Reps.
